Every year there has been an increase in the number of tourists flocking to Goa and why not - there are enough reasons to frequent the place- be it the exotic beaches, vibrant nightlife or the culinary culture of Goa. Talking of food, Goa boasts of a food culture that is a fusion of authentic Konkan Hindu dishes and Catholic Goan dishes plus a fusion food influenced by Portuguese and later by hippie travellers. Goan food seems to attract just about everyone- party lovers, couples, families, hippies, food savvy travellers, locals and anyone in between. We have collated a list of must visit eateries in Goa which will add a unique flavour to your Goan vacation. So folks, get prepared to drool.

1. Upper house

With the classic European styled indoors, this restaurant boasts of a class and unique style of its own. The restaurant serves authentic Goan delicacies- both seafood and vegan dishes. The welcoming ambience is another reason to visit the place. There's a bar area accompanying the restaurant. Goan Balchao, crab xec-xec, vindaloo, butter garlic pomfret, Goan fish curry are few of the most highly recommended delicacies of the restaurant. It is located on Cunha-river road in Panjim, right next to Church of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception on Church Square. As the name suggests, the restaurant is on the first floor of the building.

2. Souza lobo

This beachfront restaurant is famous for its seafood delicacies and live music. The setting is more like a shack. The restaurant is one of the oldest and finest food joints in Calangute beach. The restaurant serves North Indian, continental and Goan cuisine.

3. Tuscany Gardens

If you are searching for a little Italy in Goa, then you must visit this family run Italian restaurant in Candolim. Satiate your hunger for Italian food with the awesome pizzas, pastas and pepperonis served at the restaurant. The small garden setting adds to the ambience of the restaurant.

4. Bhatti village

If you are looking for authentic home cooked Goan food, then head to Bhatti village. Though it is a little away from city, located in the village of Nerul, it is worth the travel and trouble. This eatery is located almost 1 km past the Nerul bridge (if coming from Calangute). There is no preset menu and all the dishes are served directly from cooking pot to dining table. The place is open only for dinner and one has to make prior reservations if not to be disappointed.

5. A Reverie

If continental food and cocktail is what you have in mind then head to A Reverie, a fine-dining open air restaurant in Calangute, just a stone’s throw away from the beach. The restaurant is famous for its fish delicacies and desserts. The place is closed during offseason and during the regular season it is open only for dinner . The bar and lounge stays open till 5 am on busy nights. There is live Jazz performance every Saturday at the restaurant.

6. Bomra’s

If you want to take a break from the Goan curries and want to try something new, then head to this Burmese restaurant in Candolim. The restaurant serves South-East-Asian cuisine with a modern twist to it. Pork belly, Kachin chicken, crisp fried sardines, snapper with lemon grass, crab meat, coconut panna cotta, pickled tea leaf salads, chocolate fondant are few must try dishes of the restaurant. The food is reasonably priced. .

7. Thalassa

If you are foodie and like experimenting cuisines then you should definitely visit Thalassa. This Greek styled open air restaurant is located on cliff top with a magnificent view of Vagator beach. The restaurant serves Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Veg moussaka, Baklava, veg risotto, mushroom saganaki are few of the most recommended food on menu. There is a boutique adjoining the restaurant.

8. Cafe Chocolatti

The cafe is located in the middle of a lush green garden slightly away from the beach in Candolim. As the name suggests the cafe is famous for its home made chocolates and chocolate desserts.Another house favourite is the all day English breakfast. The restaurant also serves French style crepes, falafel, Thai salads and waffles. The cafe also has an in-house bakery. Please note that the cafe is open only during the regular season.

9. Bean me up

This garden restaurant located in Anjuna beach serves vegan food, with an extensive menu from across the world. The restaurant is seasonal and is closed during monsoons. Accommodations are available in huts located in the rear premises of the eatery. There is also a boutique and health shop. The restaurant also has a stall at the Saturday market at Anjuna.

10. Matsya freestyle kitchen

This newbie restaurant offers a creative dining style. Located on temple road at Samata retreat centre, this eatery offers extraordinary European cuisine crafted by chef Gome.As the name suggests there is no preset menu for this restaurant. The menu keeps changing based on season and availability of raw materials. This fine dining restaurant houses an organic garden from where the organic veggies are sourced for cooking. The restaurant offers a five to seven course however what you get on your table is a surprise - meal designed based on the chef’s choice that is guaranteed to be delicious.
