Where you can go if you had only one week to live?

Would you live your life in a different way if you knew you were going to die? And what would you do if the doctors told you that you only have a week to live? Or the always foretold but never believed apocalypse decides to happen in 1 week and wipe out the world, and life as we know it. Would you continue with the humdrum existence or do something exciting and unforgettable?

Sooner or later Death will pay us all a visit, but we generally tend to wait for bad news before we launch into action? We tend to live our lives thinking we’re a permanent fixture on this earth with infinity ahead of us. For us humans, death is a great motivator for thinking about what’s really important, then we jump into action to change the course of our life and focus on what really needs to be done. Unless you know your days are numbered, we’ll plod through life accepting the status quo even though, silently, we’re craving for more because there’s no ultimatum, no deadline and no pressure.

You shouldn’t have to take your last breath with thoughts of all the “what if” moments in your life. Listen to your heart; stop wasting time plugging all those loopholes and do something that makes you happy.

The last trust with God

If you’re the religious sort, you’ll love this one. Most of us rely on or look towards a superior power only when we know that time is limited. We love to plead and beg for more in this hour more than we would’ve thought of the various deities in our whole lives. While I don’t know if that deity is listening and will grant you a miracle, I do know you tend to feel a whole lot better for praying and if you happen to visit a temple, mosque, church or any place of worship with good faith, then you’ll feel a lot closer to God and will try to come to terms with the fact that time is limited. India is dotted with places of worship, wash away your sins at Rameshwaram or go to Ajmer to visit the saints or go to Velankanni or the Golden temple in Amritsar or any of the million places of worship around. This pilgrimage will help in building a closer relationship with the lord before we die.

A volunteering vacation

One of the best ways to be remembered is for all the good you have done and there is no better way to give back to the society than volunteering. Imagine how good it’ll feel to end your life on a great note, by helping someone else! There are loads of people and animals that are in desperate need of help and when you spend whatever little time you have in bettering the lives of others less fortunate than you, then you have lived a life that is much better and definitely less ordinary than others. It would definitely help me die peacefully knowing that I have genuinely tried, and I’d rather be immortalised for helping someone rather than for all the wrong I’ve done. There are several volunteering options out there in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya etc that you can try. Leave something more than just a carbon footprint on this earth.

For those of you with little time left, it is now or never. The word “living” takes on new meaning when you face the shortage of time. Life is too short as it is to keep pushing everything back until you have little or no time. Push those worries off a mountain, they aren’t your concern anymore, and just LIVE! And always remember no one should die with regrets.

One week might seem too little to the one who knows he has all the time in the world, but it still shouldn’t mean that you can’t pack in enough adventure and experience to make shuffling off this mortal coil a little bit bearable. Your life is calling out you saying, “take a chance on me”; so live life on your terms and most importantly live a life that is less ordinary!
